Ossoff seeks answers from Trump administration on Iran conflict

ATLANTA — Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff says he will be among the members of Congress receiving a briefing Tuesday from the Trump administration on the conflict in Iran.

Ossoff says he has questions for the administration amid the ongoing military action and believes President Donald Trump should have gone through Congress to pursue the action.

“While I intend to support this week’s war powers resolution to assert the proper authority of Congress over war and peace and to reign in the administration,” Ossoff said.

Ossoff says he is concerned about what he believes is shifting reasoning for the military action in Iran and says he intends to support a war powers resolution in Congress this week aimed at curbing the president’s ability to conduct these operations.

“The United States armed forces are the world’s most capable military, and our commander in chief has no more solemn responsibility than the stewardship of their lives,” Ossoff said.

He says the Trump administration owes the American people an explanation for the conflict and that he hopes to have his questions answered during the briefing on Capitol Hill.

Ossoff is also speaking out after at least six American service members were killed in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“With an immense gratitude for all who serve, we pray for the survival and recovery of the wounded, and for the safety and success of American service members engaged in combat,” Ossoff said.

He says sending Americans into combat should be a last resort.

Law enforcement agencies in cities across the country, including Atlanta, are on alert as tensions continue overseas.

Retired Federal Bureau of Investigation Atlanta Supervisory Special Agent Marc Benjamin said it is important to remain aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.

“If you see something, say something,” Benjamin said.
