Laken Riley murder inspires runner’s safety event

Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, the hospital on Prince Avenue in Athens, pulls together local law enforcement for a training course on runner’s safety for women. It comes in the aftermath of the February murder of Laken Riley, the Athens nursing student killed while running on the campus of the University of Georgia. The program starts at 2 o’clock Sunday.

Attendees can participate in a panel discussion with local law enforcement, take a self-defense class, as well as learn about and purchase running and safety gear from local businesses. Refreshments will be provided.
