Local government briefs include resignation in Jefferson, retirements in Dawsonville and Buford

Flowery Branch names new City Manager

There is a resignation in Jefferson, where Eric Crawford has stepped down as chairman of the Jackson County Board of Elections.

Tonya Parrish, who works right now the City Manager in Waycross, will take the same job in Flowery Branch. She has been named by the Flowery Branch City Council as the sole finalist for the post.

Dr. Damon Gibbs, Superintendent of Schools in Dawson County since 2014, tells the School Board in Dawsonville he will retire at the end of the current school year.

Dr. Robert Downs says he is retiring as superintendent of city schools in Buford: Downs says he will step down next year. The Buford City School Board will begin the search for his successor.
