Local teacher takes job in Governor’s office

An Oconee County educator begins his new job in the Governor's office: Kirk Shook taught for 12 years at North Oconee High School; he's been appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to head the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission.

From Kirk Shook's Facebook page…

After almost 12 years, today was my final day of teaching at North Oconee High School. It has been a fun ride (teaching over 2,200 days, more than 6,600 class periods, and over 1,000 students), but I am ready for a new challenge. My principal, fellow teachers, and many others in the county worked hard to make this opportunity possible in the middle of the school year.

Tomorrow, I will begin a new chapter. Governor Kemp appointed me to serve the people of the great State of Georgia as the Executive Director of the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission. I am excited about this new opportunity and can't wait to see what else God has in store!
