Oconee Co deputy killed in weekend accident in Farmington

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the weekend death of a deputy. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Scott Underwood was crushed when a lawnmower overturned. The accident happened on Underwood’s property in Farmington. Underwood, a 21-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office in Watkinsville, leaves behind a wife and two sons.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office announced that one of their deputies unexpectedly died on Friday.

Lt. Scott Underwood was a native of Oconee County and served as a deputy sheriff for 21 years.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.

“Please keep his family and his Sheriff’s Office family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time as we grieve our tremendous loss and say goodbye to our friend and brother,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “He had genuine passion for his work in law enforcement and was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him.”
