One more day of summer heat, then fall temperatures for Athens, NE Ga

Where are you, fall? The season is here but the temperatures are still feeling like the middle of summer.

Thursday was the hottest October day in history for Georgia. Temperatures reached a record 97 degrees.

"Not only will it be the hottest day for this day in history, it will also go down as the hottest day ever in the month of October," Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Katie Walls said.

Where the temperatures were Thursday morning, around 77 degrees, is usually our high for the afternoon.

Temperatures reached 97 degrees between 1:35 and 1:40 p.m. Around 2 p.m., temps cooled down to around 95 degrees.

On Wednesday, we broke the former record of 95 degrees for the day, set in 1954, when it went up to 96.
