Police arrest suspect in shooting in downtown Athens

Athens-Clarke County Police report the arrest of a shooting suspect. Ronnie Smith is charged in a November shooting in downtown Athens. The 23 year-old from Acworth allegedly shot and wounded a 20 year-old who survived the shooting that happened at the corner of Clayton and Jackson streets. Charges against Smith include aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.

ACCPD Arrests Downtown Shooting Suspect On January 24, 2023, Ronnie Smith, 23, of Acworth, GA, was arrested for his involvement in the November 6, 2022 shooting that occurred in the area of Clayton Street and Jackson Street. Smith is charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

November 7, 2022 ACCPD Investigating Shooting On November 6, 2022, at approximately 1:08AM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the area of Clayton Street and Jackson Street upon hearing gunshots in the area.

While on scene investigating, officers were notified that a 20-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with a non[1]life-threatening gunshot wound. Initial information indicates that the individual’s injury is related to the discharging firearms heard by officers in the area of Clayton Street and Jackson Street.
