Rangers help hawk with fishing lure hooked to its foot at Lake Lanier

A Georgia wildlife officer jumped into action to help a bird of prey.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers were called to Old Federal Campground at Lake Lanier last week after someone spotted a red-tailed hawk that had a fishing lure hooked into its foot.

In a Facebook post, the agency shared photos of the hawk as well as a video of an officer carefully capturing the hawk to take out the lure.

“[Urban Wildlife Technician Matt] Leo captured the hawk, removed the lure and the hawk flew off, hopefully to have a better day,” DNR said.
