The University of Georgia's annual Red Clay Conference is underway today: the 31st Red Clay Conference, focusing on public lands and the interests they protect, starts at 9 o'clock this morning in UGA's Dean Rusk Hall.

The 31st Annual Red Clay Conference will focus on public lands and the interests they protect. Specific topics to be addressed are: the making of a national park, the future of shoreline protection regulations in Georgia, and land conservation and species rehabilitation
John Dernbach, professor and sustainability director of the Environmental Law and Sustainability Center at Widener University Commonwealth Law School, will deliver the Peter Appel Keynote Lecture titled “Constitutional Amendments and Conserving Lands for the Public Interest.” Dernbach is a nationally and internationally recognized authority on sustainable development, climate change and environmental law.
The Red Clay Conference is an annual student run conference. It was established to increase public awareness of environmental issues on regional, national and international levels through a series of educational presentations and open forum discussions. The conference attracts attorneys as well as students and interested members of the Athens community.
