Oconee County was recently ranked #1 on the 2020 “Best Counties for Families in America” list by Niche. Oconee also earned the #2 spot in the “Best Counties to Live” category and the #3 rank in both the “Best Public Schools” and “Best Counties to Buy a House” categories, with an overall grade of A+.

“Oconee residents know our county is an incredible place to live and raise a family,” said Oconee County Board of Commissioners Chair John Daniell, “but what really makes Oconee outstanding is the people who make up our community, from our volunteer firefighters to the individuals who serve on our citizen boards and committees to the neighbors who are always willing to lend a hand.”

Rankings for the “Best Counties for Families in America” category were based on safety, cost of living, public school quality, and availability of family-friendly amenities, while rankings for the “Best Counties to Live” category were based on these factors as well as housing trends, employment statistics and job opportunities, and access to amenities.
