Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating the discovery of a badly decomposed body found floating in the North Oconee River in Athens. The body appears to be that of a white female. There is no word on identity or on possible cause of death
There is an ongoing investigation in Madison County: Sheriff’s Office investigators in Danielsville say a 1 month-old child was smothered to death while sleeping with a parent at a mobile home park off Highway 72 near Colbert.
There is a long and growing list of a charges for a man arrested in Jackson County: in an incident that happened late last week in Nicholson, 40 year-old James Standridge is accused of firing gunshots in the direction of Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies. There were no reports of any injuries; Standridge faces counts that include aggravated assault and drug possession.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office says its investigators have found no evidence to confirm social media reports of a gun that was said to have been pulled at a Friday night football game between Winder Barrow High School and Apalachee High School. The Sheriff’s Office in Winder says there is also nothing to indicate that cars were vandalized outside the stadium, as had also been reported.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of three suspected methamphetamine traffickers arrested earlier this month. Almarud Duarte, Kevin Tello, and Eduardo Pacheco were caught with what drug agents say were more than 200 kilos of meth and $45 thousand in cash.
