ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs bounced back after an 8-7 loss to score a season-high 11 runs to defeat Xavier, 11-6, on Wednesdaynight at Foley Field to split the mid-week series.

Dawg Tracks: Cam Shepherd had a career-high six RBI, most for the Bulldogs this season and went 6-for-10 in the series.

With the game tied at six in the bottom of the eighth, Georgia scored five runs to take the commanding 11-6 lead. A throwing error by Xavier's pitcher Sully Stadler allowed Aaron Schunk to score the go-ahead run and advanced runners to second and third.  Bases were loaded for Cam Shepherd after Tucker Maxwell was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch brought Keegan McGovern home for a two-run cushion, leaving runners at second and third.  Will Campbell was intentionally walked and Michael Curry singled to left field, bringing Trey Logan and Maxwell home for the decisive five-run lead.

In game one of the series, Georgia fell 8-7 to the Musketeers after attempting a comeback in the ninth inning.  Play resumed after yesterday's suspension due to rain with the Bulldogs trailing 8-4 in the top of the seventh with two outs. Georgia went three up, three down in innings seven and eight.  LJ Talley was hit by a pitch before Keegan McGovern hit a single to put Talley in scoring position for Tucker Maxwell.  An error from the left fielder allowed Talley to score, advancing McGovern and Maxwell with Cam Shepherd coming to the plate.  Shepherd brought McGovern and Maxwell home to make it a one run game, before the inning ended on a 4-6-3 double play.

 - Third homerun of the season for Curry, 14th of his career.

Coach's Corner

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin

On splitting the midweek series…

"We need to score some runs.  We had a rough weekend so we needed to turn that around.  We played good baseball today.  We had to resume game one, we scored three runs in the ninth, put the winning run at the plate, down four and had a chance to win that game. We had some momentum going into game two.  The first four innings were 0-0 and then runs got put on the board.  I'm proud of our guys, we had some big, clutch hits and it was a big win for us. "

On the ability to bounce back after each half-inning…

We showed some toughness today and we needed to show that.  We've had some opportunities this year to come through in big situation and we hadn't quite done it yet, so that was big for us to be able to come through.  We showed some fight.
