Georgia football instant observations as Bulldogs wreck Georgia Tech

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech tried to get the ball in the hands of its best player, running back Jahmyr Gibbs. He’s a former top-100 recruit and the type of player Georgia Tech needs more of if it plans on making the rivalry with Georgia competitive.

Quarterback Jordan Yates lobbed a swing pass to Gibbs, hoping to get him in space and use his speed to make a play.

He was brought down the play by walk-on safety Dan Jackson for a four-yard loss. The play best summed up Saturday’s game, a 45-0 win for the Bulldogs over the rival Yellow Jackets.

Georgia dominated the game from start to finish, cruising to a 24-0 halftime lead. It helps when you have a tight end such as Brock Bowers, who raced through the Georgia Tech secondary for a 77-yard touchdown. The fact that he did so untouched only further demonstrates the gap between the two programs.

Georgia now moves to 12-0 on the season, something it had not done since 1980. Georgia Tech meanwhile fell to 3-9, making it the third consecutive season the Yellow Jackets have finished the year with three wins. If you include Georgia’s season-opening win over Clemson, the Bulldogs finished with the same number of ACC wins this season as the Yellow Jackets did.
