A large tract of land along a major northeast Georgia lake is being promoted as the site of a casino resort.
The 500 acres sit on the shores of Lake Hartwell in Lavonia near Interstate 85. Preliminary plans for the resort include the casino, a golf course, and retail shops.
That kind of gambling first needs to be legalized in Georgia. That would require legislative approval, with two-thirds approval in both the House and Senate. After that would be a statewide referendum, and a final decision from voters in local referendums in Hart and Franklin counties.
