GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after being accused of killing a man and leaving another man blind in Georgia in 2020.

A Gwinnett County jury found Hakiem Sherif Williams guilty of malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault for killing a man “execution style.”

“This heinous robbery scheme caused irreparable damage to these victims and to their families,” said Gwinnett District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson. “Though the verdict won’t make these victims and their families whole, we hope that justice will help bring them solace.”

Police say in September of 2020, Williams sold drugs to two men identified as 23-year-old Mihn Nguyen and 32-year-old Cheng Xiu Han inside a Motel 6 in Norcross. When Williams learned the two men had thousands of dollars in cash in a backpack, he is accused of robbing them.

Gwinnett County officials say Williams offered to call a stripper to dance for Han and Nguyen. Williams then went to the bathroom while a woman identified as Mary Jo Tarr distracted the two men. Williams then brandished a gun and demanded the two men give him the backpack full of money.

When Nguyen tried to fight Williams, he was shot in the face and temple, Gwinnett County officials say. Han was shot in the temple and was permanently blinded.

Prosecutors showed that police identified Williams from face recognition software on his girlfriend’s social media.
