Former Athens Mayor Gwen O’Looney, who was in attendance at Monday’s Athens Area Chamber of Commerce candidates forum, posted a now-deleted comment critical of others in attendance, a post in which she used a racially explicit term. It was not immediately clear as to who was the target of the N-word attack.
Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz and his five challengers, along with several candidates for seats on the Athens-Clarke County Commission, took part in the Monday night forum at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. Early voting for the May 24 elections begins on May 2.
From Facebook…
I was there with all the old GOG-JOHN ELLIOT, CULPEPPER, ETC. FIRST APPEARANCE FOR THE N***A WHO DID A HORRIBLE JOB VERSUS KELLY GOODS DOING A BRILLIANT JOB.
Gwen O’Looney responds on her Facebook page...
Someone just sent me a message I sent in reply to an invite to last night’s candidate forum and it was badly mangled by autocorrect which I didn’t even know Facebook did, but have been a victim of autocorrection on texting. I should have reread before hitting the key. Kelly Girtz became KELLY GOODS and Mara Zuniga’s name got made into THE NIGGA and you know I would never say that, but do apologize for even the appearance of that kind of slight. I know there are some low feeders who will try to make a scandal of this, but those who know me know I have condemned this type of speech since high school. Just another reason I stay off Facebook. So sorry this happened.
