It is a plan that was rejected by Oconee County Commissioners last year: Publix has resubmitted a rezoning request that would allow for a grocery store on Mars Hill Road near the Oconee Connector. It’s a request that will go first to the Oconee County Planning Commission, then back to County Commissioners in Watkinsville.

The Oconee County School Board sets the dates for public hearings on the millage rate that will fund the recently adopted School District budget. They’re set for 9am and 6pm on July 25 and 5:30 on the afternoon of August 1 at School Board offices on School Street in Watkinsville.

There will be three public hearings in Danielsville—the first on July 26—to talk about the Madison County School System property tax rate, one that will stay the same as last year, although most Madison County homeowners will see higher property tax bills, the result of increases in assessed property values.

The City Council in Elberton has signed off on a list of projects that would be funded with passage of a special purposes local option sales tax. It includes $600 thousand for the Elberton Police Department and another $600 thousand for Elbert County firefighters, money that would be used to purchase new equipment.
