Local government roundup includes A-CC Commission meeting at City Hall

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners met last night, convening at City Hall for the first time since March of last year: the Commission had been meeting virtually since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

We are today two weeks away from the start of a new school year in Athens: the Clarke County School Board’s Government and Community Relations committee meets at 4 this afternoon.

The Clarke County School District, gearing up for the August 4 start of a new school year in Athens, is looking for public input on school buses and transportation plans: a link to an online survey has been posted on the School District website.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Historic Preservation Commission, a 5:30 session at the Government Building on Dougherty Street.

A virtual session of the citizens committee that is looking at sales tax-funded work on the Prince Avenue Corridor in Athens is set to start at 9 o’clock this morning.

An Elbert County School Board vote on an Elbert County property tax rate is scheduled for next month, and the School Superintendent in Elberton says there will likely be a millage rate rollback. The Board is gearing up for an August 4 start to the new school year in Elberton.
