ACCPD investigates vehicle vs pedestrian accidents

Athens-Clarke County Police investigate two vehicle vs pedestrian accidents, one of them fatal: police say an as-yet unidentified pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Atlanta Highway near Old Monroe Road on Athens’ west side. An east side accident is being described as a hit and run, with police, at last report, trying to find the driver who left the scene of a collision on Old Winterville Road. Injuries to the victim in that case were described as non life-threatening.

On July 14th, 2023, at approximately 9:37 PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a pedestrian-involved crash on Atlanta Hwy at Custom Place near Old Monroe Rd.

The initial investigation indicates that a pedestrian attempted to cross the highway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk or at an intersection at the time of the collision. The responding officers attempted life-saving efforts prior to transport to a local hospital. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital.

On July 15th, 2023, at approximately 2:37 AM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a pedestrian-involved crash on Old Winterville Rd and Branch St. A nearby officer was flagged down regarding a subject laying near the roadway with apparent injuries. The pedestrian was unable to give specific information on the vehicle or circumstances surrounding the incident. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
