ACCPD: man killed in crash, woman hit by train

A man from Madison County is killed in a two-vehicle crash on Danielsville Road in Athens. Police say 28 year-old Christopher Fleming of Hull died in a head-on collision involving a second man from Tennessee. That 48 year-old was hospitalized with what were said to have been non life-threatening injuries.  An Athens-Clarke County Police investigation is ongoing.

On November 13, 2023, at approximately 2:40 PM, ACCPD responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Danielsville Road, just east of Harve Mathis Road. ACCPD’s initial investigation determined that a 2008 Crown Victoria driver by Christopher Fleming (28 YOA, Hull) was heading north on Danielsville Road when he veered into the southbound lane and collided with a 2022 Ford Edge driven by Stacy Manning (48 YOA, Rogersville, TN).

EMS transported both drivers to a local hospital. Manning was treated for minor injuries. Fleming was treated for life-threatening injuries. On November 15, 2023, Fleming succumbed to injuries suffered during the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation. ACCPD asks anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Sgt. Schulte at Robert.Schulte@accgov.com / 762-400-7093. This is the 18th Fatal Crash of 2023, resulting in 19 fatalities.


A woman is recovering after being hit by a train on tracks off Jefferson Road in Athens. The engineer of the freight train tells Athens-Clarke County Police the woman walked onto the tracks and in front of the train. A police report says she suffered numerous injuries that required hospitalization in Athens.
