Athens-Clarke County Police investigate a deadly Sunday shooting: one person was killed and three injured in gunfire on Mitchell Bridge Road. The man who was killed was 21 year-old Marquise Jackson of Athens. The three who were wounded were taken to local hospitals with what were described as non life-threatening injuries. Police say it happened just before 1 o’clock Sunday morning. There was no word from police on suspects or motive. The Athens Crime Stoppers group is offering $1,000 in reward money for information on the case.

On April 30, 2023, at approximately 12:55AM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Mitchell Bridge Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male who had been shot. The individual that was shot, Marquise Jackson, 21, of Athens, GA, was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Three other individuals arrived at local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries related to this incident.
ACCPD is asking that anyone who may have photos or videos related to this incident (cell phone photos/videos, social media posts, etc.) to contact Sergeant Black at 762-400-7058, or via email at scott.black@accgov.com. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person or persons involved in this incident.
