On June 2, 2024, at approximately 1:16 AM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a 2002 white Ford F-150 on the ramp from US 29 South to the outer loop 10, westbound. ACCPD’s initial investigation determined that the driver lost control while attempting to negotiate the ramp, ran off the roadway multiple times, and came to rest after overturning. Investigators determined that speed was a factor in the crash.

The driver, 34-year-old Joseph Michael Pigage from Colbert, Georgia, was fatally injured in the accident.

The incident is under investigation, and anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Senior Police Officer Santos at Joshua.Santos@accgov.com or 762-400-7258. This is the third fatality crash in Athens-Clarke County in 2024.
