Area briefs: A-CC Board of Assessors meets, Braselton seeks tourism director

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Board of Assessors. It’s a 4 o’clock session at Athens City Hall.

A special called meeting of the Bowman City Council is on tap for today, underway at 5 o’clock in the Bowman Community Center.

They are hanging out a Help Wanted sign in Braselton, looking for a full-time tourism director for the Braselton Visitors Bureau.

Franklin County High School names this year’s STAR Student: Helena Burton chose as her STAR Teacher Franklin County healthcare science instructor Tammy Melton.

The Gainesville Department of Water Resources and the state Environmental Protection Division will continue to monitor a sewage spill that happened earlier this week, with an estimated one thousand gallons of raw sewage flowing into Lake Lanier.

A suspect in a homicide in Atlanta is arrested in Gainesville.  Gainesville Police say 47 year-old Anthony Hightower was taken into custody after a traffic stop.
