Area briefs: Athens activist organizes recall effort, Oconee Co hosts GOP convention

James Lee is organizing a recall effort aimed at removing from office Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz, Clarke County Sheriff John Q. Williams, and Clarke and Oconee County District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez. He’ll be collecting signatures for recall petitions Saturday at the Oconee County Library in Wire Park in Watkinsville. Lee will also be at the library on Baxter Street in Athens Sunday afternoon.

There is an afternoon meeting of the University of Georgia’s University Curriculum committee: it’s a 3:30 session in UGA’s Brooks Hall.
