Area briefs: Boy Scouts get Jackson EMC grant, Commerce loses parking spots

The Boy Scouts of Northeast Georgia get upwards of $20 thousand from the Foundation of the Jefferson-based Jackson EMC.

There is a heads-up for drivers in Commerce, where parking in downtown Commerce will be limited starting today and continuing through much of next month: crews are installing new electrical equipment and will also repave the parking lot at the Commerce Sports Bar and Grill on Wilhard Street. The lot is expected to reopen for parking by May 24.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Habersham County. 22 year-old Chloe Williams was killed in the single-vehicle wreck on Crane Mill Road in Habersham County, an accident that happened Sunday afternoon.

There’s a NASCAR win for a driver from Dawson County: Chase Elliot from Dawsonville took the checkered flag at the Auto Trader Echo Park Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.
