Area briefs: candidates forum in Oconee Co, new principal in Madison Co

Candidates for seats on the Oconee County School Board meet in a forum set for 6 o’clock this evening the Community Center at Oconee Veterans Park. Early voting in the May 21 elections begins next Monday.

The Oconee County Water Department was working last night to find the source of what were reported as water issues in parts of Oconee County.

There is a promotion in Madison County: Stephanie Dickens is moving from assistant principal to principal at Comer Elementary School.

Candidate qualifying continues in Jackson County, where a special election will be held to fill the District 3 seat on the Jackson County Commission: incumbent Chad Bingham has resigned to campaign to be the next Chair of the Commission in Jackson County.

She worked at a miniature golf course in Oakwood: the Hall County Sheriff’s Office says 37 year-old Nicole Bowers is accused of stealing from her employers, taking about $25 hundred in golf course merchandise she allegedly took to a pawn shop in Oakwood.

Hall County will name its Allen Creek soccer complex in honor of Mike Little, the Hall County Parks Director who died two years ago. A renaming ceremony will be held next month.

There is federal grant money in White County: almost $18 million for economic development efforts in the city of Cleveland.
