Area briefs: CCSD students out on break, Community Foundation seeks nominees

With another day of parent-teacher conferences in the Clarke County School District comes a day off for students in schools in Athens: there are no classes today. Students are also out tomorrow and again Monday before returning to classes next Tuesday.

The Athens Area Community Foundation is looking for nominees for this year’s Nonprofit of the Year honors. Nomination information is on the Athens Area Community Foundation website.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Board of Assessors, a 4 o’clock session at City Hall.

The City Council in Jefferson has imposed a six-month moratorium on annexations and is also pumping the brakes on some rezonings for residential developments in Jefferson.

Candidates for Mayor and City Council gathered for a Wednesday candidates forum at the library in Winder: municipal election day in Winder is November 7.

A 36 year-old Gainesville man is arrested and charged in a February crash that injured a woman in north Hall County. Brandon Stevens is accused of crashing his Corvette, then running away as the car caught fire, leaving a female passenger who suffered serious injuries in the wreck. Stevens was, at last report, being held without bond in the Hall County jail.
