Area briefs: fall finals at UGA, cameras for Lavonia, Manager search in Commerce

University of Georgia students continue today the fall semester final exams they began Thursday. UGA’s fall graduation ceremonies will take place one week from today.

Residents of North High Shoals held a town hall last night, organizing to oppose a proposed development planned for the city in south Oconee County. It’s a real estate development planned by the Townley Family Partnership.

The City of Commerce is in the market for its next City Manager: James Wascher says he will leave at the end of the year to take a job with the Utilities Department in Dalton.

The City Council in Lavonia signs off on funding for eight new cameras that will be installed in around the city. The FLOCK cameras will help Lavonia police search by vehicle make, color, license plate number, and other metrics. They’ll come with a price tag of $55 thousand.

A Gillsville man is in the Hall County jail, arrested on child molestation allegations: 33 year-old Esteban Panuco faces counts that include aggravated sexual battery. The Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville says the allegations date back to September.

A Buford man gets life in prison for the 2017 murders of his wife and his 2 year-old son: Brandon Williams was convicted in court in Gwinnett County for the strangulation murders of 30 year-old Natalie Nation and his son Cole, who were killed on an Easter Sunday six years ago.
