Area briefs: final week of final exams at UGA, final year of Sheriff’s term in Hart Co

University of Georgia students continue fall final exams, with UGA’s fall graduation exercises scheduled for Friday.

There is an afternoon meeting of the committee that is looking at a Tax Allocation District for Athens’ Newton Bridge Road corridor, a session set for 3 o’clock.

The Oconee County Planning Commission meets tonight: it’s a 7 o’clock session at the County Administrative Building on Macon Highway in Watkinsville.

Mike Cleveland says twenty years are enough: the Sheriff in Hartwell says he will not be on Hart County ballots in 2024. Chris Carroll, Chief Investigator in the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, says he will be a candidate for Sheriff in next year’s election. Cleveland is endorsing Carroll in the 2024 race.

Sunday’s daylong rainfall led to the cancellation of a Christmas parade in Hart County: organizers of the parade planned for Hartwell say it will not be rescheduled.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a man and woman on drug charges: drug agents in Gainesville say they found upward of $10 thousand worth of methamphetamine when they arrested 50 year-old James Campbell and 30 year-old Kayla Dore. The arrests came at a home in northeastern Hall County.
