Area briefs: Ga Square Mall TAD committee meets in Athens, Ag Commissioner endorses in Oconee

The advisory committee that is looking at plans for a Tax Allocation District for the Georgia Square Mall property meets this afternoon: it’s a 3:30 session in the fire station on Cleveland Road in Bogart. The Mall property on Atlanta Highway is set for a major multi-year redevelopment, one that will include a mix of residential, retail, restaurant, and office space.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Airport Authority, a 3 o’clock session at Athens-Ben Epps Airport.

Kalki Yalamanchili (pictured), an Athens attorney who is running for District Attorney, says he is in the early stages of gathering signatures on petitions that will be needed for him to earn a spot on the ballot as an independent candidate. He will need 54 hundred of them. Yalamanchili is running for the post now held by DA Deborah Gonzalez, who is the top prosecutor in a judicial circuit that covers Clarke and Oconee counties.

State Ag Commissioner Tyler Harper, who spoke at last night’s meeting of the Oconee County Republican Party, says he is endorsing Donald Trump as he tries to win another four years in the White House.

A special called meeting of the Oconee County Industrial Development Authority is on tap for today, underway at 11 o’clock in the County Administrative Building on Macon Highway.

White County Middle School reopens today. The campus in Cleveland was closed for the day Monday because of a power outage, one that hit on a morning that featured temperatures in the teens. Electricity has since been restored.
