Area briefs include A-CC Commission candidates forum, Royston Manager search

Some of the candidates for seats on the Athens-Clarke County Commission are taking part in forum set for 5:30 this afternoon. The event organized by Athens Classic Incorporated is scheduled to include Sidney Ann Waters running in District 8, District 6 candidate Stephanie Johnson, and District 2 hopeful Jason Jacobs. Kalki Yalamanchili, independent candidate for District Attorney, is also expected to attend the forum that will take place at the Hilton Gardens in downtown Athens.

The committee that is looking at sales tax-funded upgrades to Athens’ Prince Avenue corridor is meeting this afternoon: there is a 3 o’clock session of the Prince Avenue Corridor Improvements Group. Madison County’s Industrial Development and Building Authority meets this morning, an 8 o’clock session in Danielsville.

It’s an issue that is expected to resurface next month: Jackson County Commissioners have again tabled a rezoning proposal that would clear the way for construction of a charter school planned for Braselton.

Royston Mayor Keith Turman says the search for a new Royston City Manager is underway after the resignation of Sharleen Ayers. Ayers steps down after taking the job two years ago.
