Athens-Clarke County Commissioners tackle two big issues at tonight’s meeting at City Hall: they are scheduled to vote on plans for affordable housing and a related measure dealing with efforts to reduce homelessness in Athens. Tonight’s session is set for 6 o’clock at City Hall.

This evening’s Oconee County Commission meeting is set for 6 o’clock at the County’s new Administrative Building on Macon Highway in Watkinsville.

An Athens woman gets a new assignment in the GBI: Katie Walker is the new assistant agent in charge of the agency’s Metro Gang Task Force. Walker, a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia, joined the GBI in 2014.

There will be an alcohol referendum in Danielsville: voters will decide in November a proposal that would allow for liquor sales within the city limits of Danielsville.

The Jefferson City Schools name this year’s Teacher of the Year: Brittani Lawrence is a PE teacher at Jefferson Middle School, where she also serves as head volleyball coach.  Dr. Stephanie Westhafer, a first-grade teacher at West Jackson Elementary School, is named Jackson County’s Teacher of the Year.

A 17 year-old student at Hart County High School faces charges after he was caught with a gun on campus: school officials in Hartwell say the weapon was found last week. They say the student is charged with weapon possession and reckless conduct.
