Area briefs: Indigo Girls at UGA, candidates forum in Winder

It’s a sold-out show: the Indigo Girls are performing this evening in Athens, with a 7:30 concert at the University of Georgia’s Performing Arts Center.

Today is another day for parent-teacher conferences in Athens, with early release for Clarke County students set for 12:20 in elementary schools and 1:30 in middle and high schools.

There is a forum on tap for today in Winder: candidates for Mayor and City Council face off at the library in Winder in a session that starts at 5:30 this afternoon. Voters will decide Winder’s municipal elections on November 7.

Barrow County Commissioners have signed off on new water and sewer rates, and the City of Winder says its water customers will see an extra $5 attached to their monthly bills. It’s a new pump station operation and maintenance fee.

There is talk of a tax break for homeowners in Elbert County: Elbert County Commissioners will form a committee to look at the possibility of property tax rate rollbacks.

A Royston man is killed in a crash in Franklin County: the Georgia State Patrol says 70 year-old Gary Woody died in the single-vehicle accident on Bond Bridge Road in Franklin County.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says it was an armed robbery at a homeless camp in Gainesville: one man was shot and wounded.
