Area briefs: Oconee Co Commissioners meet, Hall Co woman arrested

Tonight’s Oconee County Commission session is set for 6 o’clock at the County Administrative Building on Macon Highway.

There is an evening meeting of the Madison County Planning and Zoning Commission, a 6 o’clock session in Danielsville.

Georgia Congressman Mike Collins, the 10th District Republican who represents Athens in the US House, will be in Madison later this week, posthumously presenting the Carnegie Medal to the family of Thomas Hawk. Hawk was killed in December of 2022, trying to rescue his 13 year-old son from a burning home in Bostwick. The ceremony is set for Thursday at the Morgan County Public Safety Complex in Madison.

A Gainesville woman is arrested and charged in the fentanyl overdose death of her teenaged son. 30 year-old Holly Sosebee is being held without bond in the Hall County jail. 13 year-old Landon Sosebee died last June.

Today was supposed to have been swearing-in day for Rhonda Wood, the apparent winner of last month’s special election for a City Council seat in Oakwood: instead, a delay while Hall County elections officials regroup after 200 people who do not live in Oakwood mistakenly cast ballots in the March 12 contest.

A 30 year-old man is arrested after a police chase in Habersham County: Quinton Batson was driving what the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office says was a stolen truck.
