A familiar name tops the latest list of Georgia’s highest-paid state employees. UGA head football coach Kirby Smart leads the way with a salary of more than $13.2 million in 2023. Bulldog basketball coach Mike White is second with a salary of more than $3 million.  Among state agencies, the highest paid employee is Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Griff Lynch, with a $1.7 million paycheck for last year.

Oconee County Commissioners meet twice today. There is a closed door executive session set for 10 o’clock this morning, and a regular monthly meeting that gets underway at 6 o’clock this evening. Both the sessions take place at the County Administrative Building on Macon Highway.

There is a February 9 deadline in Franklin County: that is the last day to apply to receive supplements for emergency food and shelter programs. Franklin County has received federal funding through the program.

He represents Gwinnett and Barrow counties in the Georgia Senate: Republican Clint Dixon is expected is pitching a bill that would require schools to digitize their floor plans. Dixon says it could make things easier for first responders when there’s an emergency in a school in Georgia.
