Area briefs: TAD talk in Athens, guilty plea in Elberton

The committee that is looking at plans for a Tax Allocation District for Athens’ Newton Bridge Road corridor meets today, 2:30 this afternoon at Athens City Hall.

There is a guilty plea in the Andrew Berry case: the Elbert County man gets life in prison with the possibility of parole for the murder of Destiny Huff, who was stabbed to death on New Year’s Eve 2022, killed at a home on Bowman Highway in Elbert County.

The family of Jeremy Medina has filed a lawsuit against the principal, athletic director, and baseball coach at Gainesville High School: 18 year-old Jeremy Medina was hit in the head while standing outside a batting cage last year and died in November. His family filed suit in Hall County Superior Court, alleging negligence in their son’s death and seeking almost three-quarters of a million dollars in damages.

50 year-old Bobby Holloman has been arraigned in federal court in Gainesville. He’s charged with supplying the drugs used in a fatal fentanyl overdose. Holloman was arrested earlier this week by police in Cornelia.
