Area briefs: UGA fall finals begin, roadwork continues in Oconee, Franklin counties

University of Georgia students begin their fall finals today: UGA’s fall classes ended earlier this week. The University’s fall semester graduation takes place next week.

Danny Hardin has died in Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center: the 69 year-old Hardin was convicted last month on child molestation charges. His death came a day after he received a 15-year prison sentence. The GBI says foul play is not suspected in Hardin’s death.

The Georgia DOT says the traffic slowdowns on I-85 northbound in Franklin County will continue for another night, with overnight work between exits 160 and 164. And the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office says drivers can look for more delays on Experiment Station near Butler’s Crossing in Oconee County, with ongoing paving work there.

The Georgia State Patrol says two people from Rockmart County were killed in a Wednesday crash in Habersham County. State Troopers say a 46 year-old driver and his 61 year-old passenger were killed in the single-vehicle wreck on Duncan Bridge Road in Habersham County.
