Athens child dies after exposure to fetanyl, other opioids

Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating the death of a 15-month-old child who was taken to a hospital in Augusta late last week. Police say the girl died with exposure to several drugs, opioids and fentanyl among them. Fox News is reporting that the girl, now identified as Zamiya Kelly, was in the care of a babysitter at the time of last week’s medical emergency.

A 15-month-old child has died after being exposed to Fentanyl, opiates and benzodiazapine, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

Police said the Children’s Hospital in Augusta reported that a child was receiving treatment for exposure to the drugs on June 25. The child, who has not been identified, later died.

The circumstances in which the child encountered the drugs are unclear and it’s unclear if the parents are facing any charges.

Detectives with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department identified Pamala Graves, 59, of Elberton, GA, as the individual that a 15-month-old child was in the care of when the child was exposed to illegal narcotics. Preliminary investigation indicates that the child’s death was a result of the exposure to illegal narcotics. Graves was arrested and charged with Felony Murder and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
