Athens-Clarke County Police have released the name of the woman who was struck and killed while walking along Atlanta Highway: Jetsenia Rosado was 36 years old, from Florida. She was hit by a jeep on Atlanta Highway near Old Monroe Road last Friday. Police say the driver of that jeep, a man from Newton County, will not face charges.

On July 14th, 2023, at approximately 9:37 PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a pedestrian-involved crash on Atlanta Hwy at Custom Place near Old Monroe Rd. The initial investigation indicates that a pedestrian attempted to cross the highway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk or at an intersection at the time of the collision. The responding officers attempted life-saving efforts prior to transport to a local hospital.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
