Athens-Clarke County Government closes pools, Bear Hollow Zoo

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department released a statement on July 28 stating that effective immediately, the aquatics season has ended, meaning that all pools and splash pads in the county are closed. Swim lessons will finish this week as planned.

In addition, Bear Hollow Zoo is now closed. In addition, the hours of select facilities have been adjusted. The statement sited “the changing health indicators in our community, state, and nation” as the reason for these changes.

The station went on to say that all Leisure Services parks and facilities will continue to operate under restricted use with limited public access.

Facility hours:

-East Athens Community Center will be open Monday-Friday from noon to 8:00 p.m.  Weekend hours remain the same.

-Lay Park will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon – 8:00 p.m.  The facility is open Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Weekend hours remain the same.

-Rocksprings Park will operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Finally, the Morton Theatre will remain closed.
