From the Athens-Clarke County Police Dept...

On Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11:04 pm, officers were dispatched to a report of possible gunshots in the vicinity of 1195 Cedar Shoals Drive (Perry’s Convenience Store.) Upon arrival, officers found David Cooper of Athens (black male, 24) suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Cooper was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

An investigation led detectives to believe that Cooper was shot by Randy Levrette of Athens, (black male, 26.) As Levrette was sitting in a car at this location, he was approached by Cooper and another individual. An altercation occurred and Levrette shot Cooper multiple times.

Levrette fled the scene. The following morning (07-18-18) around 3:50 am, Levrette was taken into custody without incident at Parkview Homes Apartments by ACCPD’s Uniform Patrol Division. Levrette is charged with Malice Murder and detectives are continuing to investigate the case.
