Georgia’s odds of landing a world-renowned film festival are looking better.

Atlanta, Athens and Savannah are 3 of the 15 cities that have had their respective proposals accepted to become the future host city of the Sundance Film Festival.

According to the AJC, veteran media executive Pat Mitchell confirmed the news at a luncheon held on Wednesday by the Entertainment Tourism Alliance of Georgia and Georgia Entertainment.

Around 90 cities placed bids to host the Sundance Film Festival, which began in 1981 in Park City, Utah. The festival’s management is looking into different locations for when their contract ends in 2026.
