The Athens-Clarke County Regional Library System says it has resolved what its Board calls non-compliance issues with the Internal Revenue Service. The Library System, with its main branch on Baxter Street in Athens, says it has paid $90 thousand to settle with the IRS.
From the Athens-Clarke County Regional Library System…
In response to notification of noncompliance from the Internal Revenue Service, the Athens-Clarke County Regional Library System Board of Trustees voted today to pay all penalties to the IRS to resolve all unpaid taxes and penalties.
Earlier this year, ARLS was notified via letter by the IRS that tax filing procedures had not been followed properly and that the library system had accrued a balance.
ARLS Director Valerie Bell issued the following statement: “The ARLS staff have identified and corrected the procedural missteps that allowed this oversight to occur and are grateful to our Board of Trustees for taking proactive steps to address the financial implications. We are committed to ensuring that all business office procedures are compliant with local, state and federal requirements. Our staff remains focused on our mission to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that empowers individuals and communities by providing resources that encourage discovery, imagination, and life-long learning.”
The Athens Regional Library System consists of 11 branch locations, located within 5 counties in Northeast Georgia. Library operations and services at all branches remain unaffected.
