From Athens Little League…

The Athens Junior League All-Star team won the Georgia Little League State Championship Wednesday night with a 5-0 win over Toccoa Little League.

Athens, having been crowned District Champions with back-to-back wins over Oconee County at the District 10 Tournament in late June, finished the Georgia Little League Junior League State Tournament undefeated with a 16-1 win over East Marietta in the opening round, 15-9 win over Toccoa in round 2, and 5-0 win over Toccoa in the championship game.

With the state title in hand, Athens moves on to the Southeast Region Tournament in Bridgewater, Virginia, where play begins July 28.

The team is seeking financial help for the journey to the Southeast Region Tournament. To find out how you can support the Athens Junior League All-Star team in their quest to make it to the World Series, please visit the Athens Little League website at www.athenslittleleague.org.

The Athens Junior League All-Star team features 12 players – Charlie Anderson, Jimmy Bishop, Jaylon Clark, Colton Eberhard, Jalen Ford, Trey Lester, Kai Loudermilk, Warren Miller, David Tingle, Shane Walls, Jack Williams, and Sam Williams – all of whom have been playing baseball together at Holland Park for nearly a decade now. Matt Bishop, Scott Miller, and Shane Walls serve as the team’s coaches.

The Junior League division of Little League allows local leagues to form an all-star tournament team of 12-14 year olds and enter that team in the Little League International Tournament. The winner of the Southeast Region Tournament will travel to Taylor, Michigan, to play in the Junior League Baseball World Series featuring teams from all over the globe.
