A 27 year-old man from Athens is killed in a two-vehicle accident on Vincent Drive: three other people were severely injured. Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating.

Investigators say the same man wanted for robbing a bank in Toccoa is the prime suspect in the hold-up of a bank in Gainesville: the search for 42 year-old Sidney McCollum ended with his weekend arrest in Tennessee. McCollum, from Pickens County South Carolina, is believed to have robbed a Northeast Georgia Bank branch in Stephens County last Wednesday and is now charged for last Friday’s robbery of a Well Fargo Bank in Hall County.

A Hall County firefighter was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of what were called minor injuries sustained while battling a weekend house fire in north Hall: another firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.

Charges have been filed against the driver involved in a deadly crash that happened in April in Hall County: 69 year-old Howard Gragg of Flowery Branch faces counts that include second degree vehicular homicide. A 64 year-old woman from Oakwood was killed in the wreck that happened when Gragg’s SUV crossed a center lane and collided head-on with the car driven by Grisel Martinez.

The federal agents who raided a farm in Newton County were there in connection with the January 6 riot at the US Capitol: the feds say they were looking at a Newton County couple associated with far-right militia leader Chris Hill.

There is a new police chief for the police department in Gwinnett County: Deputy Chief JD McClure will take over for retiring Gwinnett Police Chief Brett West, who is set to retire later this month.
