Bridge set to close, hospital work set to start

The covered bridge in Watson Bridge State Park closes today and tomorrow: the state Parks and Historic Sites Department says the closure will allow for repairs on the historic bridge over the South Fork River between Madison and Oglethorpe counties. The bridge is expected to reopen by Friday.

Work is scheduled to begin next week in Elberton, where crews will renovate the emergency room at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, and we ask for your patience and understanding,” says hospital CEO Kerry Trapnell. “We are excited to be able to bring these much needed improvements to EMH. Be on the lookout for more exciting news coming to EMH in the near future.”
