Georgia resumes Southeastern Conference play with 10th-ranked Kentucky visiting Foley Field for a three-game series starting Friday now at 5:02 p.m. on SEC Network+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network. Please note the new start time for Friday’s series opener.
The Bulldogs (16-13, 1-8 SEC) return home after two straight SEC weekends on the road. It was part of a nine-game stretch that included eight contests on the road and concluded Tuesday with a 6-4 win at Kennesaw State. The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak with the win over the Owls. In the SEC this year, Georgia dropped a series at No. 4 Vanderbilt last weekend. Georgia went 1-2 at Auburn and 0-3 versus USC in Athens. Twice this year in league play, Georgia has lost a game with a 9th inning lead. Meanwhile, No. 10 UK (26-3, 8-1 SEC) has the nation’s top RPI and has won of 22 of its last 23.
Series History: Georgia leads the all-time series with UK 142-100-1 dating to 1921. Last year, the Wildcats claimed the series 2-1 in Lexington while Georgia did the same in Athens in 2021. The Bulldogs won the opener last year 4-2 before UK came back to win game two 10-8 and then took the series with an 18-5 victory.
Weekend Rotation: Georgia will stick with the same rotation as far as the first two games of the series with Sunday’s starter TBA. Junior LHP Jaden Woods (3-2, 5.30) and junior LHP Liam Sullivan (3-1, 3.77) will start for the Bulldogs while UK has not named a starter for game one. However, games two and three, the Wildcats will go with LHP Tyler Bosma (4-1, 4.18) and RHP Zack Lee (3-0, 2.65). For the season, the Bulldogs have a 6.45 ERA with 290 strikeouts and 146 walks. Opponents are batting .269 against the Bulldogs. UK sports a 3.11 ERA (ranks 3rds nationally) with 270 strikeouts and 109 walks. Opponents are hitting .205 against the Wildcats.
A Look At The Offense: Georgia has hit 52 home runs to go with a .301 batting average and a .533 SLG%. The Bulldogs have drawn 129 walks and been hit by 44 pitches. UK has hit 22 home runs to go with a .307 average and a .462 SLG%. UK has drawn 169 walks and reached on 70 hit by pitches.
Georgia redshirt-freshman OF/1B Charlie Condon (.449-11-42), who is on the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, ranks among the national leaders in several categories. He has reached base safely in 28 games (all but the season opener). Graduate OF Connor Tate (.425-10-32) ranks among the national leaders with 48 hits and 90 total bases. He had a 22-game hitting streak earlier this year. Tate’s 37 career home runs ranks sixth in school history. Junior 3B/1B Parks Harber (.304-9-31) leads the team in league play, batting .378-3-11.
UK senior Hunter Gilliam is batting a team-best .407-6-41 while a trio of Wildcats have double-digit stolen bases. Jackson Gray (.337-2-20) is 14-for-19 for the year.
