Bulldogs national title trophy is on display again today in Athens

The Georgia Bulldog football team’s latest national championship trophy is on display again today in Athens, between 12 and 3 at the Wal Mart store on Lexington Road. A parade and Sanford Stadium celebration of the second title in two years is set for Saturday afternoon.

From WSB TV…

There was a long line of customers at the Kroger on Alps Road in Athens Wednesday, but they weren’t there for great sales on groceries.

College football’s National Championship Trophy was on display. It’s a beauty, and for the second year in a row, it’s the property of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen was in Athens on Wednesday, where die-hard Bulldogs fans excitedly lined up for the special opportunity to get their picture taken with the trophy.

The very same trophy was handed over to Head Coach Kirby Smart after the Dawgs blew out TCU in the title game on Monday night in Los Angeles.

It’s a large trophy. 26 and-a-half inches tall. 50 pounds of 24-karat gold, bronze, and stainless steel. You can look, but don’t touch. It’s priceless.

It paid a 3-hour visit to the supermarket.

On Thursday, the trophy will be taken to the Walmart on Lexington Road from noon to 3 p.m.

Then it will be off to its permanent home in the Bulldogs trophy case on the UGA campus. Right next to the one they won last year.
