CCSD extends public comment on student code of conduct

The Clarke County School District says it is extending a public comment period on proposed updates to the District’s student code of conduct. A feedback form is on the School District’s website through April 7. A Clarke County School Board vote on the new code of conduct is expected on April 11.

From the CCSD website…

The Clarke County School District is accepting an additional round of feedback from students, families, staff, and other community stakeholders on the proposed Code of Student Conduct for the 2024-25 school year (Spanish version begins on page 39). The Spanish version of the previous draft shared with families in February had not been properly updated, and, as a result, we want to take this time to gather additional input on the correct draft in advance of the Thursday, April 11 Board of Education meeting where the board is scheduled to vote on adoption of the code.

Please provide feedback through this form (available in English and Spanish) by Sunday, April 7, so that district staff can compile the comments and provide them to the board prior to its April 11 meeting.

Georgia law requires school districts to have policies “designed to improve the student learning environment by improving student behavior and discipline.” These policies include a code of conduct that contains standards for student behavior and disciplinary consequences. Rather than merely being a list of “dos and don’ts” for our students, CCSD’s Code of Student Conduct also highlights the district’s determination to:

  • help our students meet behavioral standards through student support services
  • use consistent, progressive disciplinary policies and practices
  • engage parents in support of their student’s behavior and academic performance.

For questions or more information about the CCSD Code of Student Conduct, please contact Jabari Cobb, Director of Behavior Support and Discipline, at cobbja@clarke.k12.ga.us.
