CCSD: middle school students qualify for state Science and Engineering Fair

The Clarke County School District says 13 projects and 21 middle school students have qualified for the upcoming Georgia Science and Engineering Fair after winning either a Gold or Silver medal in a regional competition held earlier this month at Piedmont University in Demorest.

From the CCSD website…

The following students earned Gold medals for their projects:

  • Lauren Neace, Hilsman Middle
  • Patrick Coverdill, Clarke Middle
  • Ezra Irwin, Ian McCracken Diaz, and Mason Malec, Clarke Middle
  • Elan Norris, Hilsman Middle
  • Daphne Borjas-Loyola, Hilsman Middle.

The following students earned Silver medals:

  • Daniel Brown and Ezra Haag, Clarke Middle
  • Sebastian Marotta, Hilsman Middle
  • Taylor Dean, Hilsman Middle
  • Bhargav Gurazada, Hilsman Middle. Bhargav also won the American Chemical Society Award for Excellence in Biochemistry for his project.
  • Wills Allen, Henry Foggin, and Omar Ghareeb, Clarke Middle
  • Arrow Callahan and Gray Whicker, Clarke Middle. These students also won the Upper Oconee Watershed Network Water Champion Award for their project.
  • Harrison Smith, Hilsman Middle
  • Traye Bernt, Wright Cook, and Henry Morgan, Clarke Middle.

In addition, Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle students Addison Luke and Emmaline Harper won the American Chemical Society Award for Excellence in Chemistry for their project.

The state science and engineering fair will take place April 11-13 at the Classic Center in Athens.
